Busker is another word for a street performer. I’ve seen buskers singing and playing musical instruments. Buskers sometimes also create art in some form to entertain on the street. During a trip to England I had a chance to observe one such busker who transforms sand into dog sculptures on Petty Cury just outside the Grand Arcade in Cambridge.

I watched him sculpt different dogs as he was there on different days and I would see him working as I walked by. He used very simple tools and seemed very focused as he worked. People stopped to watch and some would drop coins into the pan he had by the edge of the tarp.

I was watching with a group of people and thought it was interesting what one gentleman had to say. He said that sometimes there are people who occasionally walk past the man sculpting and kick the sand dog sculpture and ruin parts of it on purpose. Someone had once asked this particular busker what he did when that happened to him. His reply was that he does nothing. He just starts over.
That, folks, is perseverance. Many would be tempted to run after the destroyer, or to quit. But this man does neither. He perseveres.
Great works are performed not by strength but by perseverance.
Samuel Johnson

It strikes me that we can learn a lesson from this particular busker. Don’t give up. Just keep on heading toward whatever your goal in life might be.
Many of lives failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.
Thomas Edison
